Wathen's Single Barrel

This was a special bottle of bourbon. This was purchased in Louisville KY, just for my high school 25th reunion. I opened it and enjoyed it with friends before the reunion. We all sampled and found it to be an excellent bourbon. Since we did not finish it, I took it back to the Senior Alphageek's residence, and that is where it got interesting.

I left it at the Senior Alphageek's house. We returned several weeks later, and I thought I would have a taste. You are now looking at what I looked at: an empty bottle. I asked the Senior what happened and was informed: I drank it.

Since you cannot purchase this fine bourbon anywhere in Virginia, I will just say I remember it was really good. Perhaps it was the great location, or perhaps the old friends. Perhaps I will get to try it again someday.

Yet again, a picture of an empty bottle. I know what you are thinking and it is not good.

I like this picture because you can see the person on the back of the bottle. Before you say "so what", go try to take that kind of picture yourself.

This would not be my favorite bourbon. I found it to be rather harsh. As a result of the harshness, I found this worked well as a Manhattan, or some of it was used in cooking. I don't really think this makes the greatest sipping bourbon out there. However, that harshness melts away when used other ways, meaning that bad bourbon is still pretty good, so buy this if you like your bourbon other than on the rocks.

I am going with some quick hitters here today on the Thoughts. First up is Evan Williams Single Barrel bourbon. This particular batch started in 1994 and ended up mostly being enjoyed by yours truly. Evan Williams strikes me as not the most elegant brand out there. As a result, I was reluctant to try this particular bourbon. That was an epic mistake. Upon trying this bourbon, I found it to be one of the best values out there. You will notice that by the fact that the bottle is empty. I would not hesitate to recommend this bourbon to anyone who enjoys a good bourbon, especially given the price. So drink up and enjoy!
