Jim Beam Bonded Bourbon

Bourbon is a popular commodity right now. Prices are rising through the roof and people just keep buying more and more bourbon. Several bottles at the local ABC store were recently moved into the back of the store. You have to know to ask. Sad that some of those are on this web site and I will never have them again, unless you want to buy me a bottle that has doubled in price in the last 5 years. Bourbon is great stuff, but prices like that are hard to justify.

In an effort to avoid these insane prices, the alphageek has started to try new bourbons. So far, this expansion of horizons has been a great journey into other bourbons that are a great buy. If the alphageek's tastebuds are an indication, you should go buy some of these new bottles and enjoy the profits down the road.

Today's entry is Jim Beam Bonded a moderately priced bourbon. It is popular, and at 100 proof it is right up the alphageek's alley. Let's see how the taste works out.

Nose A little apricot, not much wood and a lack of grain. At 100 proof, the smell is a little hot.

Pop A smooth entrance with a little heat. Again the heat is probably mostly the higher proof.

Body Mild burn, and lighter than the alphageek might prefer for a bourbon.

Finish At 100 proof, it goes down smoothly. The finish is the best part of the bourbon.

I added an ice cube and there was not much change in the review. Maybe the body was actually a little thicker.

This bourbon is a great pour at any price. Given that it is in the $25 price range, you should head out and add this to your liquor cabinet today.

Russell's Reserve Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey

Not much going on the website lately, as both of my readers have noted. Yes, not really much at all. We have some snow today, so what better way to get things going than to sip a little something and write up some thoughts?

This review should have been years ago. This is a favorite bourbon that is still reasonably priced in an age where bourbon prices seem to be going up with each visit to the local store. This bourbon too will increase in price when everyone figures out how great it truly is. Whoops, I let the review slip out.

Nose Well, it just smells perfect. I am carried to the inside of a barrel aging warehouse on a beautiful day with just the right temperature. There is just a hint of both wood and whiskey to put a smile on my face.

Pop This bourbon just gently slides on in, gently waking the tastebuds.

Body The bourbon gently swirls around the tongue, gently releasing the essence of fruit and honey like sweetness.

Finish Just as gently as the bourbon enters the tongue, the bourbon departs. The bourbon leaves a smile and a gentle warm feeling.

Go buy this bourbon if you want something to sip. No ice, water or vermouth needed. I did not even bother making a Manhattan with this one, it is just too good on its own. 10 years in the barrel makes a great bourbon.

This is where I usually hawk other internet sites, like twitter and all that. We are going to reduce the presence across the web and concentrate on just writing and taking pictures. We hope this will fuel the creativity on the site and make it easier to create content. You can still click the pictures below if you feel the need. This site is going back to what it used to be: a chronicle of sipping bourbon and taking pictures. Well, there might be some restaurant reviews too but simplification is the word of the day.

As always, feel free to comment and share the content.
