Old Forester 1920

September 13, 2019 by Neil Jablonski

Yet another bottle that I picked up because it was sale at the local ABC store. There is a series of bourbons by Old Forester. The previous review was good but nothing I would get again. How will Old Forester 1920 fare? Read on.

This bourbon comes in at a higher proof. as in 115 proof. Usually, higher proof helps drive up the enjoyment by releasing more complex flavors. Higher proof helps with the up front pop of flavor that sets the stage for a strong but pleasant drink.

Nose: Gentle hints of wood and a mild peppery scent.

Pop: Peppery continues with gentle hints of alcohol as this does not have a complex profile.

Taste: a gentle and rich syrup with a mild gentle burn of 115 proof Bourbon.

Finish: goes down gently with a light but persistent mild burn.

This is an OK bourbon that I am glad to sample, but there are choices I like better in this price range. Both of the recent Old Forester samplings were somewhat simple in flavor profile while I am finding out that I like more complex flavors in bourbon.
