Old Forester 1897
I found Old Forester 1897 for a few dollars off at the local ABC store. I decided to take a chance and see if this was a special Bourbon or something that is just overpriced advertising. This Bourbon is 100 proof and bottled in bond. The higher proof usually is something that helps the enjoyment of the Bourbon in question.
Nose: Mild beyond belief. There is almost no sense of the barrel here, just gentle alcohol.
Pop: Again, mild. I get almost a subtle flavor of Bourbon.
Taste: I get little other than alcohol as the theme of mild continues.
Finish: Gently washes down and releases a gentle heat.
This is one of the most mild Bourbons I have ever tried. I recently had the opportunity to sample several bourbons one after the other. I came away with a new understanding of what my simple tastes are. I now think some mild bourbons have a simple set of flavors. My tastes have changed over the years and I like a stronger taste of Bourbon these days, so I probably would not but this again.
